• About Marcus Catsaras

Based in Australia, Marcus Catsaras supports various organizations focused on climate change research and education. As a member of the Climate Council, he maintains an interest in topics such as geo-engineering, green hydrogen, solar power, and other low-carbon technologies. Additionally, Marcus Catsaras works to combat overfishing in the world’s oceans, a crisis that can erode the food web and contribute to the loss of numerous marine species.

As he engages with philanthropic organizations, Mr. Catsaras focuses on the concept of “effective” altruism as opposed to “sentimental” altruism. While the latter may make donors feel good, effective altruism utilizes scientific data collection tools to ensure that donations have a measurable impact on local communities.

Marcus Catsaras holds a BA in film scoring from Berklee College of Music in the US. In addition to his work in the climate change arena, he manages the Cat’s Ass Studio in Avoca Beach, New South Wales, where he provides a wide range of recording equipment and instruments for musicians. A classical music enthusiast, he particularly enjoys the work of Chopin, Ravel, and Rachmaninoff.
